Swedish cyclo cross champs and Northwave cup final!

First up on Saturday was the Swedish champs, held in Borås on a pretty bumpy and slippery course. Too bumpy and slippery for my small fast tires. That was a bit enoying....AND I didn´t have my best day and legs this day. So I did the best I could for the day and ended 6th eventually. Not good, not bad.... The current champ Jens Westergren won ahead of Magnus Darvell and Emil Lindgren.

On Sundays Northwave CX cup final I had a better day with more juice in my legs. Not super good legs, but pretty ok. And the course suited me and my bike setup better. I finished 4th, just 10 sec behind Jens and Emil (2nd and 3rd!).
4th really is a shitty place. (Like Ben Raby happily pointed out;-) Not on the podium...) So even though it was shitty weather, it was a cool, good organized event and I had fun! Check out www.cxcupen.se for full results and more pics.

2nd place, Evaldscrossen, Lidköping

Hey y´all,

Did my first cyclo cross race of the season today. The race is part of the Swedish Northwave CX cup(www.cxcupen.se) and was held in Lidköping. Considering it was my first cross race and I havn´t trained that much I´m really satisfied with 2nd place behind winner and current Swedish CX Champ Jens Westergren. I won the sprint over Magnus Darvell who got 3rd. it was a good, hard race on a cool course. U can come a long way on motivation and freshness...:-)

Resuts:

1. Jens Westergren Falu CK
2. Calle Friberg, Kvänums IF
3. Magnus Darvell, Team Kalas
4. Mattias Nilsson, Team Kalas
5. Emill Lindgren, IKHP

Feels good infront of next weeks national CX champs in Borås on saturday and the Northwave cup final race on sunday. I hope I can be even better next weekend and race for the win!

Thanks Henrik Öijer for the photo.

Ride on! / Calle

Time for a break!

I had a little cold the days before the weekend, and wasn´t feeling tip top for racing the GP Roel Paulissen, even though it´s a nice race with a good organisation by Roels dad Tony. So race season is over for me now and I will enjoy some nice autumn-rides in Freiburg before heading home to Sweden. I did a really nice ride last week with Moritz Milatz, Tim Böhme and Pia Sundstendt(all from Freiburg). We followed the the hiking/biking route from Freiburg all the way to Basel. Around 120 kms and ca 3500meters of elevation gained. Was a super nice and epic ride on cool trails and gravel roads, weather was also on our side as you can see on the pics. We also managed to in the middle of a photoshoot for Hochschwarzwald tourism. So for a brezel each and some exposure in the catalogue we rode back and fourth for the photographer up there on the top of a mountain(one of many). I think we had around 7,5 hrs of effective riding and around 9hrs in total! And in Basel we took the train back to Freiburg.

Concerning next race season I don´t know exactly what I will do. Nothing is decided yet. I´ll let you all know asap.

WC Final in Schladming, Austria

didn´t go as planned! Started as 149th out of 180 or so. And within 100 meters there were 3 crashes in front of me! After that I was feeling quite good but then all of a sudden I got too frustrated riding at the back of the field, lost my motivation and pulled out after a couple of laps. Nuff said.

Will try my best to have a good last race of the season at the Roel Paulissen GP in sunday in Belgium now. After that it´s time for a well needed break.

Until then /

2nd place SWE Marathon Champs, Bjursås

I felt great and had good legs from the start. And after 30-35 kms I broke free with Matthias Wengelin(CRT). We worked well together and our gap was increasing steady(over 7mins at finish) in this superfast 68km course around Bjursås(close to Falun). But when we came to the uphill sprint finish, he was a bit stronger and won with a few seconds. I´m satisfied anyway, even though I of course wanted to win when I was so close.

Now I have decided to race the WC final after all. At first I wasn´t up for it, but now when I´m feeling good, I wanna have a crack at it. And as I was flying down to Freiburg on monday now anyway, AND I could catch a ride there with Moritz Milatz, I thought OK why not. It´s a pretty cool venue aswell, plus there is always the WC final party....

After that I´ll race the GP Roel Paulissen in Belgium as my last race for this season.

Ciao /Calle

4t at Bockstensturen (Swe Mx Cup final)

Considering my bad startlegs I´m glad it turned around and got better during the race. But it could of been a wee bit better...

I lost contact with the front group after 20kms or so, and then eventually worked my way back, once my legs started to loosen up. Once there again I felt better and could stay there without problems. But I crashed(or flew off my bike) at one point in the mud and I lost contact with the 3 leaders unfortuanaly. I thought the day was over when I couldn´t bridge up and starting looking back. But I found a good rythm and I was apparently not going hat slow, cause with 20kms left I caught a very tired Magnus Darvell. And then eventually(pulling alone) the leaing duo Jens Westergren and Lars Bleckur with about 15 k´s to go. With ca 10 k´s left Alex Wetterhall came up too. But since I had been killing myself alone for nearly 50kms I couldn´t respond to the attacks in the end and lost contact with Westergren, Wetterhall and Bleckur. So I rode alone the last 7kms and came in 4th. My club mate Wetterhall won(congratz), Westergren 2nd and Bleckur 3rd. Darvell got 5th. I´m not really satisfied, but it could of gone worse aswell. So, pretty ok after all. I also had big problems with my contact lenses during the first part of the race, couldn´t see a thing....

I ended 4th also in the Swedish Marathon series aswell, as this was the final.

Next up is the Swe Marathon Champs in Falun(Bjursås)on Saturday. Hoping for good legs.
